NO, I am not a teenager that "caught" MONO from kissing my boyfriend behind the bleachers!! (I know you have a visual...keep moving along...)
The MONO Diet for all intents and purposes is a FAD Diet and upon reading below you will see it's VERY SIMPLE.
To follow a Mono Food diet you must eat only one type of food per meal.
This diet can be done as a Raw Food Diet or by using any food. From what I have read you can lose about the same amount of weight doing it either way. Since a future diet is going to be a Raw Food Diet - I am sticking with any food for this one.
The benefits of eating a MONO Diet:
Simple - Picking 1 food and just eating just that.
A better appreciation for the foods you eat .
Only eating 1 food forces you to truely enjoy what you are eating.
A lot easier to know when you are full and stop eating - When you eat only 1 type of fruit or vegetable per meal and you pay attention to the chewing, the taste, and the texture of what you are eating your body will let you know when it is no longer hungry and when it is time to stop eating, this happens by causing your taste buds to literally shift in a way that will cause the delicious foods that you are eating to become tasteless and unappealing, making it almost impossible to overeat.
May force you to choose higher quality foods - When foods are mixed, like tomatoes, garlic, basil and olive oil, they are delicious. But eating just a vine tomato you may find it doesn't taste as good and no way could you make that your meal - but chosing a plum tomato would make it more enjoyable. You will not know - unless you simplify.
Enables you to see how your body reacts to certian foods - Allergic reactions to foods is common and it takes many people years to figure out what they are allergic to. Being that most of us cook and combine our foods with other ingredients - you could really never figure out what you are allergic to unless you step back and start from scratch.
Bottom Line: All you do is eat only one type of food, three times a day.
What I can eat....
The Basic Food Group Breakdown is divided into three groups: Starches, High Protein, Healthy High Carbs
High protein foods : Meats, Fish, Eggs, Cheese and Nuts.
Healthy High Carb foods are: Fruits and Veggie.
Starchy foods: Rice, Pasta and potatoes.
Menu Planning.....(these are just some ideas)
Breakfast
Healthy Carbs: 2 apples, 1 banana
Lunch
High Protein: 2 pieces flounder
Dinner
Starchy Foods: 2 Cups Rice
OR.....
Breakfast
High Protein: 2-3 Scrambled eggs with a slice of Cheddar cheese
Lunch
Starchy Foods: Piece of bread, large bowl of pasta
Dinner
Healthy Carbs :Unlimited veggies
NO SNACKING BETWEEN MEALS. FILL UP AT MEAL TIMES.
Eat three meals a day, leaving at least four hours between each meal. It is suggested to eat once from each group for a balanced diet.
A MONO Diet can be followed from 1 Day to 30 Days+. Some people have done the MONO Diet to Cleanse and purify, some used it during Lent (right before Eater). I also found some people restrict it further by just doing fruits and veggies.
Being the diet is easy (as you just read). I am going to try and keep it on the Healthy side. I will be getting a good amount everything I need daily, just being restricted to have it at one meal not all mixed together like a regular diet (protein, starch and veggies). I am curious if filling up on only one specific food item at one meal will be as satisfying.
***DO NOT DO ANY DIET WITHOUT CHECKING WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST***
