I started “Doing a Different Diet Weekly” for a few reasons...
1) To see if weight loss could be achieved (PLUS …I needed to lose weight)
2) To see how each diet affects me
3) To see if I could do it
I did these diets in Real Life –I did not let dieting take away from living my life – I went on vacations, celebrated birthdays and CHEATED….
I have lost 40+ pounds of the 50+ I set out to lose. I started at 232 ended (not so fast there) at 190

I found out there are just some diets that I should and would never do again (i.e., Baby Food Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet) and diets I could see myself doing long term (i.e., Dukan Diet, Michael Thurmond’s 6 Week Body Makeover)…
I made it a year and decided to continue….
YES, I AM CONTINUING!!
Next Diet Starts 1/21/11.....
Hey, 40+ pounds is nothing to sneeze at (old saying)…BUT there are so many more diets I haven’t done yet! AND so many more pounds I want to lose….PLUS, how can I not continue when I have made so many new friends that have supported me (as I hope I gave you support too!!) through this last year.
My goal was 50+ pounds – for me 50+ pounds was a starting point for this diet experiment. When I started, I wasn’t even sure if I would lose weight, let alone make it a year – I knew it was a different angle in trying to lose weight and long term I was thinking once I found one I might be able to stick to I would go back to it and do it. For me 50 pounds was not going to be the final goal. It was a starting point (SMALL STEPS…to the BIG GOAL).
The 50 pounds was to get me under 200 pounds with a little buffer…now I want to lose the “+”…
I have additional goal….I want to weigh what my drivers license says I weigh (ha,ha,ha) Seriously, I want to fit back into my wedding dress (which as luck would have it, close to what my drivers license says I weigh).

In addition there are so many other diets I haven’t done yet….During this past year, I did sporadic checks on Amazon.com and found the following:
When I typed “Diet Books” a total of 53,876 selections popped up. Thinking that the amount could possibly be tripled due to listing could either be for hardcover, soft cover or CD that leaves 17,958.
Then I broke it down further:
Diet Books for Men – 1,255
Diet Books for Women – 3,316
Diet Books for Families - 6,488
Diet Cookbooks – 3,842
Best Sellers – 685
Grand Total for above – 15,586
Difference of 2,372 selections - - My calculations are not scientific – but I have no idea what the difference could be…
Diet Books for Cats…Dogs, Parakeets???
It’s staggering to see the amount of diet books for men and women, of course some may be duplicates – but seriously, are that many diets needed and who is making all the money….it has been said that the Weight Loss/Diet Industry is over a billion dollar industry. Unfortunately, a large (no pun intended) portion of us has contributed to that industry and all we have to show for it is less money in our own pockets and weight still to lose.
Just seeing that there were 685 Best Selling Diet Books (I am using this as my new starting point) - Again…breaking down by hardcover, soft cover and CD’s approximate total I am seeing is 228 diets (some done already and this total DOES NOT include FAD Diets that seem to come out of the woodwork weekly!!!!)

And this is only a fraction of the diet books out there - - I didn’t list diets I have done in the last year….So you can see how it is nearly impossible not run out of diets…..Plus, all the FAD diets that I wanted to do and couldn't fit in....The Twinkie Diet, The Popcorn Diet, The Miracle Ice Cream Diet, The Potato Diet....I could probably go two more years and still not run out of diets!!!

There are FIVE important things to concentrate on…..if you have these or are working toward them – you have what is important….

* BEING CONFIDENT IN YOURSELF
* BEING ABLE TO LAUGH AT YOURSELF
Remember weight loss is not a race (Believe me – if there was a magic pill – I would race you to be first in line for it :0) …..)
